Evaluation - Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Question 7 is asking me to look at how i have improved my skills throughout
this whole process.

Importance of planning and research

Planning is very time - consuming and for our prelim we didnt have that much time to plan or planning for our prelim consisted of a storyboard but it wasn't as detailed as it could have been because of the time limit, on the other hand our planning for our opening title sequence was much longer with around one to two weeks to plan we had more than enough time to plan our title sequence, our storyboard was much more detailed than our prelim, we brainstormed ideas and threw ideas back and forth while coming up with the main concept of our opening, whereas when planning our prelim we just had an idea and went and filmed it in one lesson. When planning our prelim we didnt worry about costume and/or mise en scene , we just got the filming equipment and filmed. But for filming our opening sequence we spent time thinking and planning our costume choices, we also went to our main filming location before hand to do a risk assesment as to what could go wrong while filming. This wasnt necessary when filming our prelim because it was all done inside the building. Lighting for our prelim was just a LED light but in our opening we didnt have to worry about lighting because it was outside.

How much better was your camerawork/framing
For our prelim and our film we used the CandI ident

Looking at our prelim our shots weren't up to scratch but we were in the process of learning the 180° and the rule of thirds. My skills have improved since the prelim because i have learnt about the focus in the camera and the 180°  and not breaking it.

Our filming wasnt as clear as it was in the film

How much better is your editing

Throughout this process my skills in final cut and editing footage have vastly improved, learning how to make titles on final cut and adding transitions to my film and titles, I also improved my skills on using Soundtrack Pro and choosing the correct sounds to go with my film, putting them on a timeine and the moving them back to final cut. In my prelim sound wasnt very important so i just chose the firstgood sound that i heard on soundtrack rather than scanning through the sounds and chosing them according to the theme
Establishing shot where we filmed outside for our title sequence

How has your teamwork improved?

Teamwork has improved since the prelim because we learnt how to communicate with eachother, getting eachother to do work, making group posts on the blog and dividing our workload making the process of making our film easier on all of us.

Filming ouside the barbican a busy area and framing is much clearer
We used titles in both our prelim and our opening
Our meetingscene in our prelim is different to our meeting scene in our title sequence
